What Do I Do When Sleep Training Won’t Work?
Feel like you’ve tried every sleep training method in the world and your baby just won’t sleep? Have you found yourself thinking “What else can I do?” It can be easy to grow frustrated with the sleep training process – especially when you’ve tried so many different methods with no success.
If you’re wondering what to do when sleep training won’t work, you’re in the right place.
“I’ve Tried So Many Sleep Training Methods and Nothing Works!”
Do you feel that statement deeply? You are not alone! Sleep training is not a simple, one-size-fits-all process and it can be insanely draining. Think about it: You just had a brand new baby, your hormones are still trying to get back to normal, you’re exhausted, sore, and the list goes on and on…
Sleep training can feel like a massive climb that never ends, especially when your baby isn’t responding to any of the methods you’ve tried.
There are traditional methods that can work. Some examples of those include:
- The Ferber Method: After putting your baby to sleep, if they cry, you would go in, check on them, and console them with affirming words, and then leave.
- “Cry it out” (CIO): This one is pretty self-explanatory. Parents go through the normal nightime routine, put their baby to bed, and then leave the room. They also don’t respond to cries or they may use a system where they only go in after a significant amount of time.
- Chair Method: Go through the bedtime routine motions, put them to bed, and then sit in a chair in the same room until they fall asleep. Once asleep, the parent leaves and can return if they cry but only to sit in the chair.
If you’ve tried some of these with no success or don’t feel like they are right for you and your baby, it may be time to begin thinking outside of the traditional sleep training box.
You Need a Customized, Out-Of-The-Box Sleep Training Method
While you can certainly continue trying other traditional sleep training methods that you have not yet, we have found that when multiple training methods have been tried without success, other methods in a similar fashion likely aren’t going to work either. You may even end up spinning your wheels for even longer with new-to-you but still traditional methods. Instead, embracing new, innovative and hands-on methods can be a game-changer for so many parents.
Enter the Mommy-wise Method.
What is the Mommy-wise Sleep Training Method?
This is an in-home sleep support process backed by decades of success. With this method, a baby will learn the skills to put themself back to sleep. This can include tears in the beginning but remember: Crying is normal for babies. It’s the way they communicate a variety of feelings, including frustration in learning something new. The goal with this method though is to make the process as easy as possible for everyone, with as little crying as possible. The reality is that many of the “gentle” or “no cry” methods actually lead to more crying in the long run. This approach works quickly and is sustainable.
